Kuopio develops traffic situational awareness
The collection and utilization of traffic data are making significant advancement both in cities and at the national level. While many cities are rapidly developing their centralized traffic situational awareness solutions, the EU is promoting common traffic data ecosystem.
The national development is driven by gradually implemented EU regulations that require stakeholders (e.g., cities) to provide data related to real-time traffic information (RTTI) and safety-related traffic information (SRTI) to a National Access Point (NAP). In addition to offering situational awareness, the NAP creates new opportunities for developing new traffic innovations and safety applications.
Traffic situational awareness derives from different data sources
As part of the joint DaLi project between the cities of Kuopio and Lahti, Kuopio has developed a comprehensive smart city data warehouse solution (Datajalostamo) that integrates all traffic data sources. With the continuation of the Datajalostamo project, Nodeon will also be implementing another key traffic development initiative for the city: the traffic situational awareness service.
Kuopio’s upcoming solution will provide important data for the city, including the operation of all traffic signal intersections, public transport performance, bike-sharing usage, parking, and winter maintenance.
We will implement the use cases for Kuopio partly using Nodeon’s Asgard Analysis solution and partly through tailored solutions.
