Open, real-time, and independent intersection data
Infrastructure and digitalization News Nodeon Asgard Smart City Smart Mobility
Smart mobility requires data openness, and thus, the future of transportation is being built collaboratively with various stakeholders. Nodeon’s Director of Products and Services, Timo Majala, shared his views on improving data collection and utilization in traffic light-controlled intersections during the status update meeting of Fintraffic’s Traffic Data Ecosystem collaboration groups.
Traffic light-controlled intersections hold immense potential for generating traffic data. This data can be utilized for modern traffic planning, developing future smart city services, enabling data exchange between traffic infrastructure and road users, or even creating solutions to support autonomous driving.
Utilizing intersection area data requires open interfaces
However, data sharing for these application areas requires that cities have effective methods for collecting intersection area data. Future smart traffic and city applications will need access to the richest possible traffic data in real time. To efficiently utilize data simultaneously for multiple applications, open, independent, and standardized interfaces must be in place.
Nodeon Asgard Analysis solution enables the collection and sharing of intersection area data openly, in real time, and independently. The identification of road users is reliably shared for the needs of traditional intersection traffic control, but the solution also provides cities with strong capabilities for utilizing diverse traffic data in various smart city applications, as well as for creating real-time situational awareness and even digital twins of urban traffic.
